Few functions have expanded as widely as Product.
What was once primarily associated with Product Management can now include Product Development, Product Strategy, Product Operations, UX, research, Product Design, analytics and Product Marketing.
That creates opportunity, but it also creates ambiguity.
Two people with “Product” in their title may spend their days solving completely different problems. A Product Manager may sit close to customers and commercial strategy. A Product Owner may work more closely with delivery. A Product Designer may focus on experience, while a Product Marketing Manager takes responsibility for positioning and go-to-market activity.
Trying to benchmark all of those roles against a generic Product salary misses the point.
For employers, the first question is what part of the Product lifecycle the person will own and what capability the organisation needs them to bring.
For Product professionals, the breadth of the discipline creates multiple routes for progression. A career can move deeper into Product Management, towards strategy, into specialist UX or design capability, or towards Product Marketing and leadership.
The Connexus Salary Survey 2026 gives us a useful way to compare those paths without pretending they are the same job.

Product Manager or Product Owner?
This is precisely the type of comparison where salary guides can be misused.
The survey provides separate benchmarks for Product Manager and Product Owner. It does not provide a universal definition of how every Irish organisation differentiates the titles.
Rather than inventing one, employers should define the responsibilities first.
If the appointment is closer to delivery ownership, the Product Owner benchmark may be relevant. If it carries broader Product responsibility, Product Manager may be more appropriate.
The actual job should decide.
Product Strategy salaries

This part of the data shows how Product expands beyond Product Management itself.
Head Product Strategy reaches €140,000+, while Product Strategy Consultant reaches €105,000+.
Operations, portfolio, insights, go-to-market and Product Data all appear as separate capabilities.
For employers building a Product team, that creates an important choice: which capabilities genuinely need to sit within one role and which warrant dedicated expertise?

This is another area where organisational structure matters.
Product Marketing can sit close to Product, Marketing or Commercial teams. The salary table provides a benchmark, but employers still need to establish what the person will own.
Product is increasingly a collection of connected capabilities
The breadth of these tables is perhaps the most important insight.
Product Management, Product Development, Strategy, UX, research, analytics and Product Marketing are connected.
They are not interchangeable.
For a growing organisation, the temptation can be to build one broad Product role around several capability gaps.
That may work in some situations. In others, it produces a job that is difficult to benchmark and even harder to hire.
Benchmark the part of Product you actually need
The question for employers is not simply “What does a Product person cost?”
It is what Product capability the organisation needs next.
For professionals, the breadth of the market creates a similar opportunity. Progression can lead through management, strategy, technical Product, operations, UX, design, research or Product Marketing.
Understanding those differences makes the salary data far more useful.
