Creative and design job titles don’t always reveal the full scope of a role.

A Graphic Designer may work primarily on brand and campaign assets, while a Digital Designer could work across websites, digital campaigns and interactive content. UX/UI and Product Designers are more closely connected to how people interact with digital products and services, while senior creative roles can involve responsibility for creative direction, brand systems and wider team leadership.

The environment can make just as much difference as the title. Working within an agency, an in-house brand team or a digital product business can change the pace, stakeholders, type of work and level of ownership considerably.
When considering your next opportunity, look at the work you will be responsible for, the problems you will be solving, the people you will collaborate with and how much influence you will have over the final creative or design outcome.

Creative roles increasingly cross traditional discipline boundaries.

Designers may work across brand, digital channels and content, while UX/UI professionals often collaborate closely with Product, Technology and Data teams. At senior levels, creative expertise can be combined with strategy, stakeholder management and team leadership.

For candidates, a strong portfolio remains important, but so does the ability to explain the thinking behind the work: the problem you were solving, your contribution and what the work achieved.
